NMC Test of Competence (CBT) – Part 1 Training at CILA, Angamaly

The NMC Test of Competence Part 1 exam is a computer-based test (CBT) consisting of over 120 Multiple Choice Questions. It is intended for applicants seeking employment as a nurse in the UK.

These questions must be completed in a maximum of four hours. 50 questions will relate to generic nursing competencies found in each domain of nursing. 50 questions will be the application of generic nursing competencies to the specific field of nursing being applied for, for example, as applied to the adult, child, person with a learning disability or person with a mental health problem. 20 questions will focus solely on the specific competencies required for the field of nursing being applied for. There are 20 critical questions within the exam which focus on patient or public safety. Answering the questions Maintain a reasonable pace, spending a maximum of two minutes on each item. Always select the answer you believe to be the ‘most’ correct from the options offered. You can review answers and change them if you wish. The CBT does not use negative scoring if a question is not answered, so randomly selecting answers or guessing answers will not improve your result.

The Adult Nursing test covers four main domains as described by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Professional values, Communication and Interpersonal skills, Nursing Practice and Decision Making & Leadership, Management and Team Working.

You will be tested on a range of generic nursing competencies as well as topics relevant to just your specific field of adult nursing.

The test will also contain a set of questions on patient or public safety and are considered to be ‘critical items’ that you will need to answer correctly as part of your overall exam pass.

The training of Test of Competence at CILA follows the same format you will see in the actual Computer Based Test covering all four of the domains and questions specific to adult nursing addressed in the test, ensuring that you can fully prepare for your exam.
