What is the Trinity College Licentiate Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages?

It is an advanced qualification for English Language teachers with at least two years experience after taking the Trinity College Certificate in TESOL or the CELTA or other equivalent qualification in English Language teaching.

What is Trinity College, London and why is its validation important?

Trinity College, London is an examination board in London which has offered examinations in communicative and performing arts since 1877. It has been offering examinations in India for more than 125 years. It is one of the most highly respected examination boards in the world and is famous for its high standards.

Why is it useful to hold this qualification?

It is accepted all over the world as evidence of advanced knowledge and skills in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. It is recognised as a Level 7 qualification by the Office of Qualifications in the UK. This is the level of qualification for post graduate courses  in the UK. This course is also recognised for credits towards a Masters degree in English Language Teaching and CILA has already arranged for successful candidates to be offered the chance to join the second year of the Sheffield Hallam Masters in TESOL by distance learning.

It is valued by employers looking for senior staff and is highly desirable for those who wish to pursue careers as moderators or examiners for international English tests. It is accepted all over the world by employers, including the British Council.

What does the course involve?

The course involves:

  • A six month online course involving numerous tasks such as posting comments on important issues in English language teaching, reading papers and book extracts, completing quizzes and writing essays.
  • A 3 week face to face course in which your teaching skills are assessed in 5 lessons taught by you. You take a 30 minute oral exam in phonology and you prepare for a written exam on grammar, teaching skills and professional development.
  • Three projects need to be completed: an Observation Instrument project, a Developmental project and a research project. These should be submitted by mid-July.

 How long does the course take?

You can finish the course by Nov 25th 2017 but you are allowed up to 3 years to complete all the components although tutor support will not be available after that unless you pay an extra fee.

What is the cost?

The course costs 2,600 Euros if paid in one payment or 2,700 Euros if paid in 4 instalments with an initial payment of 750 Euros. You are also required to pay 467 Euros for the Trinity examination fees. This is the 2016 price but the 2017 price has not yet been announced.

When does the first course begin in Kerala?

The on-line course begins on Feb 3rd.

The Face to Face course will be held at Cochin International Language Academy with a Diploma tutor from Oxford TEFL and a Trinity diploma moderator from October 30th – Nov 17th 2017.
